Physiotherapy Descriptions:
Electrical Stimulation: This technique is delivered by placing pads on or around the injured area. These pads are connected to a machine that sends electrical pulses into the tissue. This type of physiotherapy technique is beneficial for reducing pain, decreasing swelling, promoting general muscle tone, restoring range of motion and speeding the healing process.
Ultrasound: Ultrasound is a machine that uses sound waves to generate heat. These high frequency sound waves are focused on the site of an injury by gently moving an ultrasonic head over the affected area. This technique can be used on both chronic and acute conditions and is commonly used in the rehabilitation of muscle, tendon and ligament injuries, hematomas and swelling.
HIVAMAT®: We offer this Deep Oscillation Therapy®, a revolutionary therapeutic device that can treat swelling, relieve soft tissue pain, and help an injury recover faster. Deep Oscillation is characterized by an intermittent electrostatic field, which is built up between the hand applicator and the tissue of the patient by means of the HIVAMAT®. When applying Deep Oscillation, the tissue will be “kneaded” by mechanical force. Optimal use is for post-surgical rehabilitation and swelling reduction, lymphatic drainage and injury recovery.
Traction: This technique helps facilitate restoration of the cervical curve and releases pressure from the hard and soft tissue components of the neck. It is used to treat herniated discs, degenerated disc disease, pinched nerves, headaches and many other neck conditions.
Moist Heat: Moist heat reaches deeper into the affected area than dry heat methods. When warm moist heat is applied to an injury, it dilates the tiny blood vessels in the affected area. Increasing blood flow nourishes the tissues with essential nutrients and oxygen to accelerate the healing process. This technique can temporarily reduce pain in an injured area by reducing muscle spasm and promoting circulation.
Ice: Ice therapy is used in the treatment of acute and chronic injuries. Ice reduces swelling by causing the blood vessels to constrict and numbing the injured area. Ice therapy can be used successfully to reduce swelling, pain and inflammation in joints, muscles, ligaments and tendons.
